Bureaucracy

Be informed

The first thing to do is to be informed.
For non EU students Secoli Institute offers training in four main specializing areas:
> Women’s wear
> Men’s wear
> Women’s underwear
> Children’s wear
and each training course can last for one, two or more years.
> one year training course is for those students who already  know how to work within the apparelsector and only need a specialization in a specific area. Training course proposed is an intensive course of Pattern Making and Manufacturing in one of the specialisations above mentioned .
two year training course is for young people who wish to get a complete training in the specialisation they've chosen that will let them enter the world of fashion professionals. Training course proposed includes: Pattern Making, Manufacturing, Fashion design, Organisation and Marketing with the possibility to add a short course in CAD pattern making and/or PC Design. The part regarding Fashion Design is optional for students who already have a degree or diploma from other universities or fashion schools.
> three or more years training course is for those people who wish to have the completest training with a customizeded study plan. A typical example could be students who at the end of a two year course in Women’s wear wish to attend an advanced course in lingerie or an intensive course in Men’s wear. All combinations are possible.

The fastest and easiest way to get all the information is to look at Secoli Institute website or to contact the Customer Care Office at the following email addresses: info@secoli.com or matteo@secoli.com, or call our telephone number +39-02-6597501.

NOTE: analyse carefully course programmes, ask all the questions you need to choose the course that suits you the best: we wish to give you the best information to let you get the best training.
Remember that in accordance with current regulations  regarding granting of study visas, it is NOT possible to renew the visa after the term stated in the documentation used to get the study visa (and/or change school). This means that if you register in an annual course, and then in a second time wish to add  a second year, you will have to go back to your country and request a new study visa, while if you register in a multi-year course you can stay in Italy and renew your study permit year by year.

Registration procedure

Registration is very simple.
You will have to send to Secoli Institute central office (Viale Vittorio Veneto, 18/A – 20124 – Milan – Italy)a PRO-FORMA REGISTRATION FORM FOR NON EU CITIZENS (properly filled in all its parts and signed) and pay the registration fee (that is fixed at € 1.500,00 for all  courses).
Remember that if you are in a particular hurry to obtain the Visa you can send the Registration form and the receipt of the bank transfer via FAX to the number: +39-02-29000133.

NOTE: Some Italian Embassies request that the first year of the course is completely paid  in order to grant the visa. Before paying the fee ask the Italian Embassy in your country if this is the case. Secoli Institute has a telephone list of all the Italian Embassies around the world, look for the one in your country or ask for it at info@secoli.com.

NOTE: pay attention to the entry requirements for the training course you've chosen. The documents that prove you fulfill the prerequisites (usually a school/study diploma) will be requested when you'll complete the registration.

  To obtain the visa

Once Istituto Secoli gets  registration documents (by mail or fax) we will quickly prepare and send the documents needed to grant the study Visa to the address indicated on the Pro-Form Registration form .
Documents can be different case by case and it is not possible to provide a complete list.
In general there are:
> Registration Certificate (NOTE:  consulate employee that will prepare and grant your Visa has to stamp and sign an original copy of this document. You will have to bring this document to Italy and keep it with you for your whole stay in Italy, as it will serve to obtain your Residence Permit)
> Payment Receipt
> Other specific documents requested by the Italian Embassy of your country (Declaration of Accommodation, Declaration of Responsibility, etc.)
NOTE: documents requested by the Italian Embassies to grant  Study Visas often vary. It is always better to ask the Italian Embassy in your own country the documents list they need before enrollement at Istituto Secoli. In the case that the embassy employee dealing with your Visa request asks for new documents don’t worry but inform immediately Secoli Institute and we will send these documents via FAX and by mail.

Once in italy

Once arrived in Italy you will have to obtain some other documents to be able to complete your registration. Istituto Secoli Staff will be at your disposal for any question or doubt
In general you must request:
> a Permesso di Soggiorno, (Residence Permit): this document will allow you to stay in Italy for the whole scholastic year of the course. if you choose a multi-year course you will need to renew it year by year . You will have to request the Permesso di Soggiorno from a Questura (Police station) by filling  a form that you can find in every post office and then sending it by mail to the Questura of your city.
> The Codice Fiscale (Tax Code): You will have to ask for a Tax code from the relevant office of the Ministry of Finance of the city in which the course is held (in Milan the Ministry of Finance is in via Della Moscova corner with via Manin) bringing with you your Passport.
NOTE: remember that in Italy you must be identifiable. This means that if by chance the Police or  Carabinieri ask for an Identity document from you (Passport) you must be able to show it at that given moment. In order not to risk loosing your Passport (granting a new one in a foreign country is always problematic) we advise you to always carry with you a copy of the passport and go as soon as possible to the Comune and ask for an Identity Card. To obtain it you just need to present your Passport and three passport photos. Istituto Secoli staff is available for further information and to advise you regarding which Comune office is most convenient for you.

complete your enrollment procedure

Before the lessons start you will have to come to Secoli Institute to complete your registration.
You will be asked to:
complete and sign the Registration form;
> pay the whole course if  you haven't already done it;
> bring a copy of your passport and study visa (or the original passport and we will make a copy);
> 3 passport photos;
> bring a copy of the Permesso di Soggiorno (or the original and we will make a copy);
> bring a copy of your Tax Code (or the original and we will make a copy);
> bring a copy of your Education Certificate in English (or the original and we will make a copy).

At this point you have completed all the bureaucratic (and boring) steps to be able to study in Italy at  Secoli Institute. Then you'll just have…….. to start your course!
